Steps to Becoming an Egg Donor

  1. Fill out an Egg Donor Application Form which contains questions about donor’s medical history, health situation and life style (or habit). You will be requested to submit a Pictured Identification Card.
  2. Drug Abuse Testing and Infectious Disease Screening: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of USA requires urine tests and blood tests for infectious diseases, which include tests for STDs, such as Hepatitis B  and C,  Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Varicella, Rubella (German Measles), Cytomegalovirus, HIV-1, HIV-2, HTLV-1. HTLV-2 and Pap smear of uterine cervix, etc.
  3. After being accepted as an egg donor, you will be added to a database of egg donors from which couples can choose from.
  4. Once you have been matched with a couple, you will meet with a psychologist who will determine whether you are mentally and emotionally healthy and well-prepared as an egg donor. A contract will be drafted between you and the couple. The contract will explain your responsibilities, rights, and financial agreement, etc.
  5. As an egg donor, you will be educated to administer hormonal injections by yourself and you will also receive medications which will increase the production of follicle and egg. On the 8th-10th day of your cycle, you will need ultrasonography and blood tests to check the number, size, maturation, and location of the growing follicles.
  6. When your follicles are ready, the egg retrieval process will be arranged and performed by a physician. An anesthesiologist will sedate you and a physician / surgeon will perform egg retrieval. This anesthesia process takes about 5-10 minutes, afterwards you will be recovered soon, and you will be taken to a recovery room for adequate rest. At the end of the procedure, one of your family members (or a trusted person) should be able to take you home. Before your leaving, you will be compensated monetarily by contract. After the egg retrieval, you will need to follow doctor’s instructions. Your menstruation will resume in about 2 weeks. The US Conceptions (USCs) wishes your course smooth and successful.
